I guess this will have to be a 2 part answer ...LOL
for salmon I like wet flies I can never seem to hook 'em on a dry. Always pulling the fly away from them.
for trout its definately dry fly can't beat it!!!
Mike
I like the dry fly for trout , I love it when a large brown comes up and sips the fly from the surface.
Dave I've been tying some Bombers for my fishing partner for our Miramichi trip next month and I may have to keep 1 or 2 and give the dry fly thingy a try again on the salmon
I can't imagine a dry fly strike from an Atlantic Salmon, That would be so awesume. Oh by the way cool looking fly.
Dave they shock the crap out of me everytime and I pull to quick instead of letting them turn.
I bet, I'm sure it is quite a suprise when they hit. Your first response I'm sure is to set the hook. I bet after a few times you learn to hold off but I still bet its hard to hold back. Sounds fun to me.
I've been salmon fishing about 25 years now Dave and still haven't learned to be patient when they come to a dry fly!!! Sooooo......I tend to fish mostly wet.LOL
Hey Mike I was watching this fishing show once they were fishing over in New Zeland and they were having a hard time with the Brown Trout doing the same thing. To remedy this they would say God save the Queen before they would set the hook. I guess it worked they caught some nice ones.Heck give it a try let me know if it works.
My fish'n buddy says to cast the fly and turn my head and talk to the guy next to me (which is usually him). When I feel the pull turn and give it to him...LOL
......but I just got to watch.....can't help it
Which fly do you like better ? Do you like the dry and the awesome strikes or do you like the wet with its surprising strikes ?
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
