Jack and I did some fishing this past weekend up in Maine.  Tried for smallmouths on Sunday but had only one good one on and Jack got a little one.  Really little.  We've fished the same pond a number of times this year and have had fantastic fishing a couple times early on the season and no action this summer. Doing something wrong.  Think they might be down in a deep spot where we aren't fishing or something.

On Monday afternoon we hit one of the trout streams after Mom went home in the separate car.  It was a beautiful afternoon and Jack put in his second day of fly fishing on his own.  I think he really enjoyed it as we spent a good 3-4 hours working our way upstream.  I put a wet fly on for him first and he wasn't getting much, so I set him up with an elk hair caddis and caddis beadhead dropper.  He's in the middle of asking me if you ever get one on both flies at the same time when BAM he gets a double for his first two fish on his own on a fly.  He did well managing the line and really didn't get tangled much except when moving from pool to pool.  He fell last time on the wild river and broke the handle on the Pleuger and bent the rim so it was hard for him to reel.  Got that fixed with a nylon bushing and screw yesterday so he's ready for next time.   Unfortunately my battery died on the phone just before we got on the stream so I didn't get any photos. Nice fish 5-8".

Nice sounds like you all had a great time .  Love them smallies .

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
