Jay and I started out our day with a wonderful 6AM breakfast at the Millstone. We planned our fishing adventure over a hardy breakfast. We decided to hit a catch and release all wild trout section on Rapid Creek .  Wonderful scenery but high pressure area. When we arrived we were one of only two cars in the parking lot  . We Bought a nice picnic lunch that we hid in the shade for latter in the day . We geared up our Bamboo rods and headed to the deeper pools . Not a fish one on the rise. The water was clear the sky just as clear not a bit of shade except the shadow we cast on the water. When I use my bamboo rod I strictly fish dries so I knew it was going to be as tough as it gets . The water still running fast and high . Ice cold as well.  I put on a CDC BWO and worked the pools with abandon . Noting doing not even a look . Jay and I split up and kept in touch with our phones.  After a couple hours Jay caught his first Brown . Me still nothing . Sad

The temps now were climbing into the 80's I did start to see more insects on the water . Also a few flashes . My hopes of catching fish was starting to improve. About this time a fine young lady and I mean fine by looks approached me. She was doing a survey for the Fish & Game . I was much obliged to help her out with her survey Wink . We talked for a while about the fishing in the area and i couldn't help but notice she kept staring at my rod . My bamboo guys keep it clean .Mr. Green.  She had just taken up the art of fly fishing and was impressed with my bamboo. I let her hold it and told her now I had spread the awful disease. She will never be the same . Once you go boo you will never go back .  Its addicting . Well she decided that she better get back to work which I agreed because the fish were starting to rise . It wasn't long after she left and went to talk with other anglers I had my first strike and miss. I quickly returned my fly and yet another miss . On the next drift something caught my attention I didn't notice at first . My fly was a perfect match as far as color but was much bigger then the natural . I was fishing a size 16 and the bugs on the water were about a size 20. About that time Jay had come back . He said did you get a look at that fine young blond . I said oh ya . I told him I showed her my rod he said he did to .She sure does know a good rod when she sees one . Well after finally managing to tie on a size 20 BWO I made my cast . First cast and wham . Fish hooked and landed . Clapping

I told Jay to go small even a 24 if he could . The result was immediate '

While Jay was catching fish I made a freind .

About this time the fish kind of went down once again . Couldnt figure out why. So we went and had our picnic lunch and decided to head to another stream close by . By then we were pushing 90F . This stream was much different water temps were up and now rising trout to be seen , We did manage to land a few bass ,chubs , yellow perch and crappie not what we came for but a tug just the same. Things got quite interesting when Jay and I were hiking upstream when all of a sudden Jay did a hop and skip all the while yelping snake which i just noticed as it struck at me but luckily I too had started to skip like a school kid playing hopscotch '

Made him quite mad because his rattle was singing . So glad he missed me would have ruined my waders .

Well I will put an end to the story by saying we didn't catch any more trout but more of the same with fish that shouldn't be in the stream but a tug is a tug . Did I tell you she was a looker . Have a great day fellars hope you fishing season is going well. Dave V
