Today we hit the mid 40's so my friend  Jay and I  hit the stream. I manages a couple colorful Browns . He had a couple hook ups only to have his tippet break . Wasn't a catchy day but was a blast just the same. Nothing beats a day on the water in mid winter.

 Pretty brown.

i was considering fishing yesterday but the water is really high and the ice still extends out to the main channel making it kind of dangerous to wade and too far to cast to.

Thanks. I agree we are  a bit lucky . Our stream banks are bare of snow and ice. We really haven't had any snow sense the big blizzard in Oct. We have had a couple days in Jan in the high 50's mixed with sub zero temps. Our plan was to go ice fishing but when I looked over the weather report we decided casting a fly would be a bit more fun. I had a blast. Although something growled at me from the trees behind me. Made my hair stand up. With all the Mt Lion sightings I thought it best to go join Jay for a bit. Then a couple families came in with dogs I knew whatever it was is now long gone. All in all a very good day in the outdoors .

I think you made the right decision to stay off the banks. No sense pushing your luck with mother nature
