The mailman showed up my new small stream toy on saturday afternoon.  A 5'9" 3 wt glass rod I scored on ebay for next to nothing.  After giving it a shake and wiggle and tying a 8 ounce weight on the end of the line that completely taco'd the thing I was excited!  I rolled outa bed 4:40 am and arrived on location around 5:30 only to be greated by downpours Sad  I had great expectations for the day as early last week I was fishing this same spot but at a higher elevation and had great luck.  After walking a bit from the road at the first likely spot I caught a small fish.

I continued to work upstream from here, sadly the weather must of put most of the fish down on bottom because I couldn't see any holding out in the open and almost every fish was taken subsurface.

The ever changing course of nature.

As I continued upstream the stream began to shrink, fishing was still pretty decent though.

Picture of the new rod and small trout that still managed to bend the rod over by almost 40%.  Awesome fun!

After walking almost a mile upstream I found the spot I had fished the monday before and found the trail out of there.  On the walk back to the truck I just kept wiggling that noodle thinking...man doesn't get any better that this!

Nice work and welcome to the world of light weight fly rods.  I have a 6'6" 3wt that is now my everyday rod; landed a 22" rainbow on it last year.   My light weight rod is a 6' 1wt that all up weighs in at 5.125oz.  The first fish I landed on that rod was a 14" brown, now that will bring a smile to your face.

This is a slippery slope you are traveling down my friend, when those stockies start feeling like whales and a 10" wild brookie feels like a tarpon you'll never go back to those tree trunk 5wts again.  Hell, I'm thinking about building a 00 or 000 wt rod this winter.

I gave my good old 2wt a work out Sunday.  Nic and I hit up a remote beaver pond inthe area that hosts a group of wild brookies.  I caught a bunch mostly 2 to 3 inchers but it was a blast.  I even caught one pushing 7 inches.

I'm heading to Vermont for some family activities and I intend to put in some fishing time.  I'll report back if I get a chance and things actiually come together for me.  I might even do some bass or Pike fishing on the fly.

I already have a longer 3 wt moderate action graphite but it was still far too stiff for my liking.   I have tried a few 1-2 weights in graphite but they still didn't feel right.   I made the switch to glass because I enjoy the slower casting stroak much more plus I can still toss heavy/bushy flies because of the heavier line weight while still retaining that full flexing profile that makes smaller fish so much more enjoyable.  I think I'm happy now with my choice Fishing
