Every sunday night its always the same, staying up really late getting ready for 3rd shift tying up flies and getting ready for my weekly monday afternoon romp.  I don't keep a massive stock of flies on hand, I just can't bring myself to tie 20 of the same fly in row.  So I just tend to tie what I need for the water I'm going to be fishing the next day.  In this case it was yellow hornbergs and pheasant tail nymphs.

All year I've been waiting to try out a stream I snowmobiled by last year that looked pretty nice, just been waiting for the right time.  Theres always that nagging feeling in the back of your mind wondering if that new water is going to be empty and just a waste of time.  But then theres that other feeling laying behind that shouting just a bit louder.....well what if its full of fish!  Yes I have voices in my head Smile

I arrived in the early afternoon and after a liberal dose of bug spray and a short hike I could hear the water off to my left.  I left the trail and cut right to the stream and sat down by this pool and got rigged up.

On the first cast I had a decent fish come up and slam the berg but I wasn't ready and didn't get a proper set and lost him.  Well at least I know there's fish here!  That fish never gave a second look but as I moved my way up stream I had better luck.

Mini Falls

And right under that big tree to the right

His baby brother

Yet more trophy burls!

And a couple more nice ones, pretty decent sized.

And then the thunder-boomers showed up and chased me back to the truck!  I was only able to spend a couple hours here but I plan on coming back for a early morning extended run this weekend to further explore.  Another entry into my little black book of fishy spots Smile

Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.

I'm a bit jealous.  When I have the time I am going to have to start doing some exploring.  I have not beenthe adventurous sort.  I guess I feel like I get so little time to play I want to make the best attempt to maximize the available free time.  In the end I still lose out sometimes going to stocked waters.

Keep up the good work.  I love the photos!

I am in the same boat, trying to balance work, kids, home and life and still fit in a little time on the water.  This is precisely why when I go fishing I avoid stocked waters because I know I'm going to catch a limited amount of ugly slugish fish on water that has already been beat to death.  All the places I have fished this year require no more than a 15 minute walk from the road and the results have been outstanding.

Yeah I suppose I'll just have to get ambitious and gamble on some new waters.  I will soon be in the lower area of the Lakes region and I expect there should be numerous fertile streams and beaver ponds in the neighborhood.

I got to say...  I can't wait to move and be with in walking distance of some great fishing waters soon.  And I'll get my kayak in VT that I haven't even seen in like two years.  I think some bass fishing might even be in order.

I miss my time on the water and the clarity of mind it brings.
