Sounds like a great time. It's hard getting out with the little guy. My boy is 7 now and he got the fishing bug last season. It's been easier to get out now that I have a partner. Fished twice this weekend. Didn't try Lucas, but attempted to launch the canoe at Mendums Pond, then North River Pond, then it was blowing a gale on Bow lake and we finally ended up back on the Salmon Falls and managed to get a few pickerel before dark. Lot of time spent getting untangled, but he's catching fish. He even got the pickerel that bit me off and rescued my bait! I'm headed out tomorrow for a full day with my friend for smallmouths. Got a few streamers stashed away to try also for the lurking browns.
I've only fished Sky pond once years ago during the green drake hatch. Tied some of those big extended body flies. Got there before dusk and then the place erupted for an hour or so and the pond was just littered with bug parts. Pretty cool. Would like to try it again.

I cannot wait for my son to get the bug. I am sooo ready to take him fishing most weekends. And the camping trips and all that jazz. It will be a blast!
If you are interested in visiting sky pond maybe we could try it together sometime.

T-bone, sorry I didn't get back to you about sky pond. Been busy with the long weekend and figuring out the list here at home and at work. Looks like the list is going to be longer here at home this summer which might mean I can get away for fishing a bit easier. A trip to sky pond would be great or another for that matter. I really enjoyed fishing Hall pond in Samdwich notch the few times I've been as well.
The long weekend wasn't so hot weather wise so Jack and I finally got out Monday afternoon on the brook. Spooked a couple and hooked one but nothing else. Found a few beautiful pools that will be fun to try at dusk. Water was COLD wading in our skivies. Then we hit a bass pond and when the wind finally let up at dusk we got a few. So we let Jack skip school on Tuesday to fish with me while Mom went to work. Headed out for smallmouths at about 6:00 and it couldn't have been a more beautiful morning. A morning I'll certainly always remember even if Jack may not.
OH OH now he's hooked. Love it . Well done . The both of you get a big
Yeah well I know I've been pretty AWOL lately, and I apologize to all, but man have I been a busy lad! Between a running screaming Comanche of a child around here and the house hunting, well I've barely had time to wet a line. But I have made it out a couple times in the past few weeks.
I picked up a float tube in February this past year and have been dying to use it. So with a little advice for a local trout pond I ended up at Lucas pond in Northwood. I got out kind of late and saw two fisherman leaving with stringers full of trout. I thought to myself, I guess I'm in the right place. Once I got set up and on the water it took some time before I figured out how to maneuver well, and after tangling up in some bait fishermans' lines I apologized and made my way out to open water and shallows along private property. I saw a chase on an 18 brassie trailing a CDC olive emerger, and I'm fairly certain b the silhouette it was some sort of trout as it turned away at the last moment. Then I proceeded to catch several pumpkin seeds and blue gills of varying sizes in the combination rig and even two little bass.
As the sun rose and less water was shaded I had less luck and was on the south west end of the pond when the unthinkable happened..... I lost a flipper and again was spinning around and maneuvering like a wounded duck. eventually I made it in to a dock and packed up and prepared to hike back to the car. It really gave my day a sense of ruin.
Keith was kind enough to loan me a pair until I could pick up another, which was great! I have to return them soon though a that time has come and gone.
Then there was Mother's Day weekend and this past weekend I went with my friend Nic to Profile lake. We got on the water about 5:30 am and Brandon and another friend Kenny were already there wading the edge. We began wading and after an hour with no activity four any of us, we got our tubes out and Nic and I began working the open water. He got into one first with an 18 pheasant tail. I discovered 16 - 20 nymphs trolled with a little weight (in my case an olive bugger or a prince nymph with one split shot) was a productive combination. And it didn't really start getting active until about 9-10:00 am once the water was warmed by the sun a bit. I caught some nice brookies one was about 8" and the rest were between 14" and 16". It was a great time. Nic caught a slob that was about 20 inches and probably 3 to 4 lbs. I had a close one, where a huge wake and dorsal fin were chasing my fly but I tried to set the hook too soon when I got excited and it went back into the deep unhooked.
We hit Plymouth up for lunch and meanwhile Brandon and Kenny went South to Bristol and Franklin.
After lunch we hit up a trout pond in New Hampton called Sky pond. What a great fishing spot. We got there around 2:30 or 3:00 pm and the place was vacant. Right away the pond was showed signs that it was teaming with life. Big crayfish and countless salamanders swam around the shores edge and the black flies were thick. After some bug doping we set out, and immediately I discovered mayflies on my tube. Judging by color I would have guessed Hendricksons. Then the mosquitos were hatching. I caught several brookies all around 10 inches or so. It was slow at first and I quickly discovered they were not near the edges of the pond but near the middle.
At one point the hatch was so amazing it looked like rain on the pond and it wasn't raining at all. Shortly after it began to sprinkle and we headed for shore.
It was a fantastic day!!!
Oh yeah and here is a recent picture of my little terrorizer...
