Hi Dave
Having spent nearly 25 years chasing poachers, I could write
an essay on the subject.
I will suffice to say that each case should be weighed on it's
own merits and the penalty handed out accordingly.
What the courts seem to overlook is the cost involved in
catching, doing the paperwork and the cost of prosecution of
the individual. There is not much incentive for the enforcement officer
to have his Department pay out $3000-6000 to take someone to court and have the judge fine them the minimum allowed.

I see your point Stephen, I guess this is why poaching has gotten out of control. Sad isnt it ?
What should we do to poachers ? I believe that we need to be a bit more harsh on them. Big game poachers get 1000 dollar fines 3 days in jail . Fish poachers get what a 100 dollar fine ? I think a good month of hard labor cleaning streams and river banks should cure this big problem we have. A good beat down would also help.
Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
