Well what can I say ? 61 Degrees on Jan 9 TH 2013. Not to rub it in but I packed my gear and off to the stream I went. First stop below Canyon Lake Dam. I wanted to give my 11x tippet and size 32 fly a go. Unfortunately the fish were already being pressured by a couple of fly fishing folk before I got there. So I turned around went north of the lake . Pulled up and there were 5 fly fisherman trying their luck as well . So i went into town on a stretch of stream most people over look . Success I had the whiled stream to myself. Only thing is that stretch is loaded with low hanging trees and brush so my attempt with 11x and size 32 micro flies would have to wait.  I put on a small renegade for my first fly . I did not hook up or land any fish bit I had several rises and splashes at the fly. So I tied on a small CDC Grey Emerger . Success on my 1st cast.   A little Brown about 5 inches . My guess a brown from 2011 spawn . I cast out again an once again I caught a little Brown in 6 inch category . I repeated this over and over for an hour before i packed up for lunch.  Looks like last years drought didn't hamper last years spawn should be some good spring fishing. Had a good little day on the water . Sun felt good on the bones . The fresh air was very pleasant also.  Thursday is going to be just as nice then Friday highs in the teens. Got to love South Dakota.  Nice report bud.  It has been warm here but not that warm.  Around 40 degrees here and into the weekend.

You sure get some strange weather out that way.

See Yah
Thanks

As if we haven't had strange weather patterns here.  This is the first year in manythat I can remember that it was even cold enough to have good ice before February.

BTW Good for you Dave!  Too bad there was so much competition for you but, atleast you got out and found a secluded location.

Nice work Dave, I'm hoping to steal away for an hour or two this weekend.

I think I might have been tempted to step into the prime spots with the others and just muscle them out.  I mean all you have to do is flash one of them 32's and folks will back away (no one wants to mess with a crazy man).
