Well T-bone started this by mentioning the existence of the "worlds smallest decent fly tying hook" a size 32 Tiemco.  Then Dave picks up the ball and says he will tie a fly on that hook.  Not being one to let things go...I am now going to give it a shot as well.

So to make it fun lets see who else is up for the challenge...tie a fly on a size 32 hook and post it here then we can see which one the folks on Lee's Fishing Page like best, then which one the fish like best.

So now I am off to place my order for hooks and then practice micro patterns.  Big Grin

Tell you what I am going to give it a serious shot . I hope these old eyes can even see the dang thing   I guess I will have to get some really small thread as well

When you place your orders for them #32's...Do not order them by the thousand..Big GrinBig Grin

I saw a package of them years ago..Next time I saw a package of them they looked like dust..

Don't be surprised if a few of you suddenly discover that you may need glasses.

I think I had better stick with #10's and up.//////Happy Tying All...

Well my 32's are on order and I just picked up some #22's to practice on, this is not going to be easy folks.

I tied a #20 Adams last night and it came out fairly decent for a first pass, even with 14/0 thread it was getting crowded.

There has to be more masochistic tyers out there that want to take up this challenge....

Stephen I already have to have glasses to tie a 16 . Tying on a 22 I have a hard time seeing my thread placement.  I guess I will have to use the force Luke.

Keith I found threading the size 22 hook on a 6X tippet to be rather easy my guess 7X or 8X  will be required for the 32.  This should make for some really interesting stream side tying to the hook. Again I will require the use of the force Luke.

Dave,

A little information I gleened from the interweb:

A 6x tippet is aprx. .005" and 7X is aprx. .004"

  • Size 30 Hooks have a 2X eye. Tippet .009" (2X tippet) will pass thru the eye.
  • Size 28 Hooks have a 0X eye. Tippet .011" (0X tippet) will pass thru the eye.
  • Size 26 Hooks have a 0X eye. Tippet .011" (0X tippet) will pass thru the eye.

Have you tried to put a OX through a size 26 hook ?  I am curious to see it in action .

I've never tried to put an 0x tippet through a Size 8 hook, at that point you might as well use braided steel cable.

Most of the guys on the Miro fly board run a 6x or 7x leader and claim to have no problem...we'll see.

Last night I managed to tie a passable Adams on a #22, I am going to try a few more this weekend and post pictures.

Just bought some size 26 hooks at the fly shop. Dave G told me the only difference between a 26 and 32 is a thread wrap or two. The shanks get shorter as they get smaller  But let me tell you . Them hooks are dang tiny. Eyes on a Maine skeeter are bigger then these hooks. Good luck finding one if you drop it .  He said to fish the flies in winter . He has caught some nice browns with it . He uses . Get this . 11X tippet. He said you will have no problem landing a 14 inch brown on that light of tippet. He said the thing not to do is set the hook. Just lift the rod. The hook is so small and sharp the hook will set itself. Can't wait to tie a few up and give them a shot. Size 32 on the way.
