Do any of you still use silver on steel tinsel on your flies ? I notice when using Silver its tougher to wind compared to other types. What is your take on this ?

I use the Uni-mylar or Uni-French but I also really like the Lagartun products. On flies for fishing i don't think the fish can tell the differance and I don't tie many flies for show B)

I think thats what most people use these days is mylar. One it dosent rust and one it wraps easier and is cheep . I used silver on my grey gost but If I were to tie one that I wanted to fish I would go with mylar.

I use largatun oval mostly....But use flat silver on salmon flies....
I relegate the mylar to trout flies and streamers.

Stephen do you fish with the flies tied with silver ? Have you ever used the tinsel off your Christmas tree ?

One of my favourite trout flies is a reduced silver doctor that
has a silver body and rib. A married yellow, red, blue wing,,,veiled with barred mallard....Also a blue hackle and a golden pheasant tippit tail,...
And yes ...on occasion I use Xmas tree tinsel...I have a bag of
holographic hid away somewhere from a Xmas past. I was also
told that one of those emergency blankets that you can get for a
couple of bucks will yield a lot of tinsel.
