So today TBone and I got kitchen passes, seeing as he was in need of rehab from his recent surgery and the fact that the rivers are swollen and raging due to the biblical rains, we decided to head out to Willard pond. My goals for the day: 1. Introduce TBone to pond trout fishing. 2. Put him on some Tiger Trout with that 2wt of his.
The day started with TBone getting lost on his way to my place but after a few calls we were finally off to Willard Pond. We dropped off the canoe and float tube at the water’s edge and I parked the truck.   By the time I made the walk back to the drop off, TBone had the first fish in the boat, a nice little brookie. (Goal #1 complete)
I suited up and we headed out, in just a matter of minutes I had a nice tiger on the line. As I was making my way over to show off my catch, TBone had a fish on, I nice little Tiger Trout (Goal #2 complete).
Within no time we were into and endless stream of Tiger trout with the occasional brookie thrown in for good measure. Within the few short hours that we were there we must have landed 60+ fish between the two of us.   (I’m sure TBone will elaborate further)
We were both a bit worn out and sunburned so we took off in search of sustenance. Fortunately we found a great BBQ place nearby. Recharged we headed back home, with the promise to do this again real soon.
More Photos to come;

Very cool gentleman.  I have to get some of that . Mr. Quiggly

Keith

Nice story, those Tiger Trout are some cool looking fish.  How do they fight, I hear the are good fighters?

Did a little edit of your posts, because the pictures caused the forum to go outside the bounds of the fixed width, not a big problem.  Next time when you use the MediaGallery browser to place pictures in a post use a width of 600, you only have to set one width so the other can be left blank.  Also I think it is better to use the "media" radio button then the "img" button, not sure why but that is how Mark Evens stated it in his instructions for the software.  It does look like the "img" tag works so I guess it is a moot point.

Again very well done and to see that T-Bone is getting out is great.  I need one of those Kitchen Passes for next Sat, plan a get together with Paul up in North Conway.  I will report after that trip.

See Yah
Thanks
Lee

Thanks Lee, I was a little wiped out when I uploaded and forgot to set the width (can you set a default in the editor?)

As for fighting, I think T-Bone will agree, these things fight more oz for oz than any other trout I have ever caught.  They litterly do not stop fighting until you let them go.  Look at the picture of T-bone taking the trout out of the net; there is water splashing everywhere because the TT is still fighting.

A 10-12" TT is capable of pulling my 220# butt and float tube around in a circle.

One detail I left out is that the TT were especially aggressive Sunday.  At one point I had two TT jump out of the water to take my streamer and they collided in mid air while a third trout came in and took the fly.

They were also jumping like crazy when hooked, I had several come out ot the water 3 feet or more and multiple times on a run.

Many of the hits we got were explosive as well, blasting out of the water when taking the fly.  The water is very deep and clear and several times I watched a TT come up from 10-15 deep like a rocket to take the fly.

No I don't think so, because the MediaGallery Browser is a seperate piece of software.

Sounds like you guys had a ball with those fish.  Will have to do that with you sometime.  How much longer does that pond stay good, maybe we can do it in the fall if we don't get to it this spring.

See Yah
Thanks

Not sure how this pond fishes in the warm months, it is 80+ feet deep and cold spring and stream fed so they should stay active at least in the morning and evening.

Here is a shot of a small TT bending the 3wt and turning me around; as I recall this one came in around 10".

Yeah I set up and launched while Keith parked the truck and before he got back I had three hits and hooked one that was in the boat when he came back to the launch.  They were everywhere and jumping clean out of the water when we got there.

I watched schools of trout swim by the canoe all morning, and I would drop my dry fly and when it sunk strip it back, hits almost every cast.  Splashes would show up chasing my fly until about 5 feet from the canoe.  It was phenomenal!  Best day of fly fishing I've had yet, hands down!  I have caught bigger fish and I had a "Crappie day" with Ziggy that was awesome, but to hammer trout like that was one hell of an experience!

I have not yet caught a decent brown trout, I guess I'll have to start trying to focus on that a bit.  But man I can't say enough about how great a day I had!

Thank you so much Keith!  And lunch was absolutely fantastic too.

The sharp side of the sword however was that I never thought about sunscreen and this white boy turned into a red skin, big time!!!  I thought I was getting better yesterday, so I returned to work with this sunburn on my forearms and from my knees to my ankles, and I have no idea if it is wearing scrubs or what, but it got infinitely worse at work.  Blisters started popping up on the insides of my knees and currently I have one an inch in diameter and about a 1/4 inch raised on the insde of my right knee.

My supervisor sent me home because my legs were swelling and achy, and the damn thing looked like it was going to pop and leak everywhere any minute.  It was visible through my pants.

I won't forget the sunscreen again!

Damn! you didn't look that burnt.   From now on I will toss sunscreen in my bag, just in case.   I generally don't use the stuff because I have a mild allergy to the active ingredient but I like to be prepared.

BTW- glad you had a good time we will need to do it again soon, maybe hit Spoonwood for some browns.  (and BBQ on the way home!)
