The Grandson and i departed for the Little Southwest Miramichi shortly after the school bus

delivered him home and we had a bite to eat....Traveling across the Province via the Renous highway

is always a challenge....Ninety miles of nothing but trees. and bumpy road...We did get the opportunity to

see two black bears on the way over....We settled into base camp before dark...set up the laptop and

checked on the world in general.

After several coffee I got my posterier into gear and we headed for the river..Water was higher than I liked

and the black flies and mosquitos were sevagerous.....A dunking in deet and a fair breeze slowed them down a mite..

About 5 casts and i hooked a nice little brook trout on a number 6 red butt butterfly. After a pass or two through that section I hooked and landed another one...

Suddenly I heard "Grampy, I have hooked one"... He landed it successfully and would'nt  you know...It was bigger than mine...

And caught on a fly that he tied himself.

We broke for lunch then and i had my proverbial old age nap...We went further upstream for the evening fishin.

grandson hooked and landed another trout which evened up the score...there was just no living with him them.

On Sunday morning we went back to the first location and nothing. The decision was then made to pack up and head home.

There were other areas that i wanted to fish...But the annual Red bank trout derby was underway and many areas were standing room only and no place to even park. we stoped and fished the North Branch of Renous River on the way home but apparently

the fish gods had turned their backs to us...We did get to see a nice moose on the return trip.

Happy Fishing and Tying

Nice report Stephen . Good to see the next generation of fly tier and fisherman have success. You must be a humbled but proud Grandpa. Thumbup to both of you. Building lasting memories very cool indeed

Very nice report Stephen.  Was your intent to catch Brook Trout and not Salmon, or are you fishing for both.  Where on the Little Southwest do you fish??  Do you know Debbie and Dale Norton? they run Upper Oxbow Adventures right on the Little SW Miramichi.  I was wondering if you fished some areas that I have fished.  Good to see you are still getting out and the Grandson is showing you how to do it.  Hope the summer is a good one for you and the family, keep the stories coming.

See Yah
Thanks
Lee
