Koda,

I need a box to put these in!  I'm using baby food jars.

What do you all think?

I think the fish will eat them up.

On the #18 dry, you hackle looks about 3 sizes too big, do you have a hackle gauge?

Also I found when you get down to an #18 or smaller switching over to a 12/0 thread makes a big difference.

Nice work!  I was sticking the finished flies in one of those Thanksgiving gourds last week and it worked great.  Don't think my wife noticed... For hackle barbule tails I like to use a feather from the top corner/ edge of the neck.  They tend to have slightly stiffer barbules.

Speaking of storing fly stuff, looks like I'm due for a new tying box.  My son fell on it this morning.

T-bone,

You've seen my storage system, I have a couple of large boxes that I take with me and all the back up supply is in small plastic jars.

Beaton,

This is what I use for tying storage, this is a pricey example cheaper can be had at Target or even Big Lots.

Yeah I know.  The hackle I have was not perfect, so I was jsut attempting to try and make a dry fly hackle that looked like dry fly hackle.  I knew it was over sized, but Iwanted to see if I had hackle that would work for dry fly hackle and to see if I could actually tie on a hook that small.

So it was a success even if the fly isn't astonishing to the eye.

OH NO!  I hope your suns alright that looks like it might have hurt a little.

I believe the feathers you are speaking of are referred to as spade hackle.  I have heard of exactly what you are talking about somewhere.  I am a bit like a sponge, taking in all of this information.  I am still a pupil at the vise and on the water, but I would consider myself well on my way like jr high maybe.  LOL!

THanks for the feedback gang!

I saw some that I really liked at Walmart that are meant to fit together and form like a closet organizing system.  Unfortunately I priced out what I'd want or need and it was over $70.  So I either have to get a little at a time or find something cheaper.

You are destined for greatness my Friend. I got fly boxes, cases of em. Keep in mind, you dudes on here get discounts too Big Grin

There are two types of flies. The ones that are so correct they are acurate to within .001 of an inch in proportions. These catch fishermen, and sometimes trout. Then there are the ones that are out of balance, not anotomicaly correct, off in shade, and don't look just so. Usually, these catch fish like a Son of a Bitch Surprised

Some steaks have a bone in em. Some have more fat in them. Some are thick, some are thin. But when I have a hankerin for a steak, if it looks like a damn good steak, I'm gonna light off the Webber and do it up.

In most cases, trout are not as particular. If it LOOKS edible........Gulp!
