They may be selling them for $1.99 a dozen, and that's just about what they're worth.  They just aren't the same as our flies. Even had some GB flies and those I didn't think were the berries either.

It'll come back once the guys figure out they've been had Big Grin

........My commercial tying days are coming to an end as sales have plummeted in the last 5 years ...have to start tying bass flies I guess ??

Mike

Curious, what do you attribute the down turn in fly sales to? Less fishermen, or foreign invasion?

Thanks!

I believe its a combo of more folks tying their own flies (that's a good thing) and offshore flies...our market up here is pretty well flooded with flies from Africa and Asia....you can buy a dozen salmon wets online for $1.99 how can anyone compete with that??

Mike how do you beat that QUALITY MY FREIND QUALITY !!!!!!!!!!

There is a wide differance between cheap and inexpensive. Cheap is the "Hiti Kiti" flies. Cast em in the water and they fall apart Great bargin Big Grin

Inexpensive is shopping it around and reading a lot of reviews from guys just like us. That's how you end up with a good shooting 270 for $350 instead of $2500 Mr. Green

That don't make us bad Laughing Out Loud

Custon 9' 8wt Pieroway Element series.....all I had to do is agree to whore myself for them Surprised

I really don't think it is the overseas stuff that is killing my business Dave...one shop that I sell to in Fredericton, New Brunswick didn't buy any bugs this spring ( even after they asked for 100's and I tied them) the economy is bad all over and if he can get his guys in the shop to tie them while they are already getting paid to be at work well so be it...when he runs out in June he will just direct people elsewhere I suppose...The salmon fishing industry is screwed here in Nova Scotia and that is partly why things are bad here...If I were living back in NB I'd make a better go of the commercial tying...but Momma won't hear of it Sad
