That rod is kick ass Brother. Gonna look like a million bucks once you get the accents and the clear coat on it. Big Grin

Ziggy and Koda

I want to see a nice set of pictures when that rod is done, with the reel.

Nice work Ziggy, I tried to build a rod years ago and did a terrible job of it, so the second kit I had I had Bill Franke put together for me.  By the way it was a kit he sold.  It was a 6' 5wt 4 piece rod that was the nuts.  As life would have it it got stollen out of my car only a few years after I got it.  Without a dought that was the nicest Fly Rod I have ever had.  At 6' it could trough a line so easy and it was nothing to do a 40 foot cast with it.  And the best part was that you felt like you had a tooth pick in you hand.

Keep up the good work Good Job and maybe we can crissen the rod on one of my favorite streams in the mountains.

See Yah
Thanks
Lee

Koda got the green light from the misses looks like i 'll be able to own that reel middle of next week Thumbup. I will be in touch. If i remember you said it was a 3/4 weight? if so i may grab and extra spool if that is possible ?  that will not be for a bit, down the road, as i decide what i am gonna do for a nymphing rod. I see another kit in my future LOL ... they have a 10 foot 4wt 4 piece for 168 $ so will look into that would be cool to have a set 3wt - 4 wt but gonna shop around may piece the next one together ... lots of possibilitys ... i feel i am confident enough to just get better at this and found some Ice jig rods cheap about 30 for the kit , plan on doing a couple of them up one for me and one for a present for my buddy ....

Ziggy

Yepper, it's a 3/4 size reel. Check around on the added rod length. I played around with a 10 footer and was all screwed up. Once I got used to it and went back to 9 foot rods I was all screwed up on those for a spell. You wouldn't think a foot would make that much difference but it did for me. Oddly, I can do 7 1/2 footers with no problem and even some 6 footers.

I fished the 10 footer on the Pemi in Bristol and kept getting hung up in the brush on the back cast. Wasn't to bad if I paralled the river, but sometimes you just can't do that trick.  Maybe it's just me ???

i havent nailed it down yet as far as length i cast a 8'6" 5 wt and do good with it , casting the 3 wt will prob take a few to get use to but sure i will adapt, i am thinking prob a 9' 4 wt will work for nymphing and a little cheaper on the pocketbook Smile I think i am gonn do some shopping around and see if i can put together a rod like nic did , if i can come in under 150. $ for everything prob go that route . i plan on getting some tools and building a wrapper for the next one simple enough . the dryer i can buy seperate and will look on craigs list and other places . i am sure people loose intrest after they get there rods built and prob part with stuff like much fly tying equipment ...

Built this , this morning , decided after closer inspection i could improve a couple of wraps and watched a viedo the guy was using a hand wrapper much like the one i made shown above , i am hoping it will improve the looks of the wraps. I have time and can do this until i am satisfied , looking like i may do 3 guides over where there are a couple double wraps visible . not a big deal but keeps me busy, waiting for ice fishing ... just waiting for the epoxy to dry  where the rod will sit on the wood figure it will protect the blank some ast it rolls over it , see how it goes if all else fails,  there's had masking tape on the crotch i can simply do that as well.

just saved myself about $45. according the there web site  Smile wife will give one of  Mr. Quiggly for that Thumbup

Ziggy

Try some mole skin down in the V's. You have to make sure you don't have any circumferential scratches on the outside of the rod as those will become weak points when the rod is under load.

You should be able to get the stuff at Rite Aid or CVS

well i  decided against the wrap caps (difficult for a rookie such as i LOL and color too light to make it look good need darker thread ) and now just waiting for the custom decal i ordered to get the finish on the rod , hoping today they arrive and i can get it finished for the weekend , looks like i be able to use the rod a bit sooner then normal,  Its all good, i am excited to get it on the water for a test drive .
