I might have to order me one of those vises.  Where do we get them?

Thanks for thinking of me.  I have been a bit busy lately.  I joined a fly fishing club out of manchester this week.  Darrell my new friend that knows Koda intorduced me and brought me into the circle.  He also brought to my attention that I have been spending way more time a the vise than on the water, so I went to Franklin yesterday morningand fished between the 3/11 bridge and the dam.  Holy shit did it rain on me!  I came over the bank from victory Drive.  I parked up above at the cemetary and fished the eastern bak as "troutaholic" from FFinNH had suggested to me.  I tried everything, and got nothing.

But I was not too frustrated as the scenery in the fire red maples and the stream that splits off and runs through the woods was spectacular.

I told Darrell that I was trying and he suggested that I hit the boat access on RT 3 after the prison.  I went t his morning, and I guess the fish were there.  I saw a rise, but there is so much debris in the river right now that you need a bought to fish the open current water.  I kept catching leaves and sticks with every return.  I gave up shortly after, but had a nice conversation with a bird hunter.

I have not caught a fish in a while.  I'm starting to get a bit anxious.  The bird hunter was also once an avid fisherman and assures me the Merrymeeting is running good right now.  He said he caught some beautiful hens there this week.

Maybe that will be tomorrow morning's adventure.  I'm not real keen on fighting for a spot in the water though either.  ANd when the bell rings I hear the kids come to play.

How's the fishing up your way Koda?  I hear the New Found river is heavily fished this time of year too.

 Theron,

I used to fish that stretch of river in Franklin all the time!  My wife and I lived in Tilton for a while so I  hit that I think daily, maybe twice a day some days Smile  I had alot of luck fishing for bass and panfish there.  I hooked into a couple salmon, and caught a few trout too.  On a summer day I'd go down there with poppers and could catch panfish all day long.  Big one's too, they put up quite a fight.  There used to be lots of wildlife down there.  I've seen beaver, alway several heron, birds, Bald Eagles...

Hooked into a few Atlantic Salmon.  I used to buy the stamp.  What a a hoot, never did land one though.  I once was wading and looked down and there must have been an 8lb salmon in the eddy behind my legs...

Nice to hear you're getting out.  I posted that I hit the Newfound, was a very brief trip though.  I haven't heard if it has been fishing well.  Years ago in college I had some fantastic fall fishing there.  Rainbows up to about 18" on size 20 and smaller flies....

You assumpted right. I lay a LIGHT base of head cement on the thread wrapped hook and let it get tacky. You have to make sure you don't put to much on or it seeps up through the herl. You want the herl fluffy and soft otherwise the trout spit it out. The mylar flashabou is some strong stuff and adds a bit of glint to the body. It is in fact a twisting affair and it looks like there are a number of ways to go at it.

Myself, I don't like doing it on a stationary vise or a Nor vise, gotta be a rotary for me because I wind it from the top. All I can say is it works for me.

The Newfound river is pounded hard from the opener to the closer. "Scissorbeaks" like to bait fish the stretch which of course is not supposed to happen but does. And I've never heard of anybody getting busted for it.

The Pemi in Bristol just down the road from the Newfound River IMHO is a far and away better bet. Get away from the bridge and you'll find some fish most of the time. If the trout aren't playing you may end up hooked into a 5 pound smallmouth or even a salmon.

The shad go whacko every now and again and jump out on shore and flop around which is quite the sight to see. Too, there are Bald Eagles up and down the river which are always a joy to see.

And in the summer, the river and road is laden with scantily clad huggers advertising their wares. Kind of detracts from fly fishing but hey, it's a public river Smile

Darrell is good people, you can't do much better.
