Highly unlikely that I will be fishing on opening day. Most likely
I will not get near the water until around the 4-6th of May.
Serious fishing will not begin till about the middle of May.

Auh Stephen must be getting old. In the olden days on opening day he would get up before the sun came up grab his gear and head to the river. If when he got there and the river was frozen he would march right out there drill a hole in the ice and head back to shore. He would then grab his telephone pole size fly rod tipped with a bomber the size of most eagles and cast to that hole over and over until he caught one of them extinct Atlantic Salmon those boy's across of the border tell me about. Now if he got there and the ice was gone but the water was to high he would tie one end of a rope to a big old pine tree he would then strip down butt naked I know not a pretty picture but it has to be told so one can get the whole idea of how tough he was so many years ago. He would then tie the other end of that rope to himself. I wont say what body part he tied the rope to just in case children read this little story. Dang he was a tough young man . Ok when he felt it was good and secure he would march right out into the 35 degree water up to his elbows and cast until he landed another one of those fish that no one seams to be able to take pictures of. Ah them were the days aint that right Stephen.

I was not going to reply to the above post by Dave V. but resistance seemed futile.

As bad as I hate to admit it, I am apparently getting old.
The old expression "The early bird gets the worm"....Unfortunately, I am a dedicated fly fisherman and
do not need to awaken early to get a worm. Besides, catching flies is nearly impossible in the dark.
I have been up to my elbows in 35 degree water, but not
because I wanted to be. Was crossing a stream in late
November on a log and the log broke...Also, went through the ice on a beaver pond in January. On both occasions still had a fair piece to go to get to the camp.
My fly rods may be 9 foot or so and have considerable backbone. But that is why I hold the loops in my hand when I
cast. I find it comes in handy to be able to grasp the line to
keep the fly out of the bushes on the other side of the river.
I am definately not as tough as I used to be. Nor do I need
unnecessary excitement. I have spent the better part of my time in the woods and on the water.
I have had more than my share of running rapids and rounding the bend in a canoe and seeing nothing but blue
sky and tree tops.
At this stage of my life..My idea of "roughing it" is at the minimum a "Best Western" or "Holiday Inn"

Good story Dave and Stephen, just for you Dave I've uploaded more pics of those elusive, almost extinct, never stay still for a picture sea run atlantic salmon. You know I've got to take it easy woth the pics so as not to overwhelm the Lee's servers.
