Like I said any nymph or wet fly hook will work for tying bugs Dave...just use whatever you have on hand

Smile Mike I have to go get some tying thread to ,  The biggest hooks I have right now are streamer hooks . Other then that I think my biggest are a size 16  I Have ordered the hooks I need but will practice spinning deer hair on the cheapest hooks I can find . Thanks Mike for your help. Dave V

 Hi TBone

Don't let Koda discourage you about spinning hair.

there is a certain knack to it...But easy after some practice.

Deer hair is one of the cheaper materials.....A razor blade will remove

it from the hook....all that will be lost is a few pinches of deer hair and

a couple of inches of tying thread and a few minutes of time.

learn how and it opens up a world of muddler minnows, deer hair mice . etc.

Happy Fishing and Tying

Far be it from me to discourage anyone. I think everyone should try that deer hair thing so they too can experience the frustration and the mess Laughing Out Loud

I tried it, I don't like it, and I 'm not doin it .  At my age, I reserve that right Mr. GreenMr. GreenMr. Green

Everytime I try I usually vacuum right after.  It helps avoid any hostility.

I just sentt he wife off to the store and on that list is razor blades.  I have many many flies I have tied that failed in a ziploc container too that I might attack with the razor to utilize the hooks.

I think I was beginning to get it when I last gave up.  I mean I had a few that didn't look too bad, but I am a perfectionist and get frustrated trying to make things perfect.  And honestly I believe it was my trimming that was really making them sub par more so than the spinning part.  But in the next week or so I intend to reaquaint myself withthe frustration.  LOL!

Thanks for the advice and the confidence guys.  I'll see if I can't make some portrait worthy for some more experienced eyes to look over.

Neat, a triple quote. Big Grin  Lee, are you feeling poorly Brother or are you smokin something we need to share? Laughing Out Loud

I didn't clean the post up. All I said was I done it, got my ass kicked, made a HUGE mess, and said to Hell with it. Charlie always had Muddler Minnows.Big Grin

Mike said it square. You put a blade to them freakin deer hairs and they're like ticks. Ba Doing! They hop off every where.   I knew what he was saying, and that's when I said "I saw it right off " Laughing Out Loud

Life is to short to subject ones self to that kind of .......torture.  I'll leave the deer hair to those that have the patience of Jobe Mr. Green

That's not one of my virtues.
