I have put the data into tables.

See Yah
Thanks
Lee

Table looks much better thanks Lee

 Question:

I know in air whether something is moving parallel to the ground or not, gravity has the same effect.  Hence in theory if you shoot a bullet and drop one at that same time they will hit the ground at the same time.  Does the water current have an effect on the drop of the bead/fly.  I've always had it in my head that if you were in swift current you would need more weight to get down....

Thanks again,

-Nic

p.s.  Lee, that chart looks GREAT!

Crap you would have to bring up physics. Nic. I am not sure about the shooting and dropping of bullets Because a bullet shot has more force then one that is dropped

  • s = ut + ½ at2
  • v = u + at
  • v2 = u2 + 2as
  • vav(Average Velocity) = (v+u)/2

I have read that if you drop to objects at the same time no matter the size difference they will hit the same time though . Now I could be wrong. Now for weight in water I am sure current plays a big roll in drop rate .Pressure is defined as force per unit area:

Pressure (P) = Force (F)
Force (A)

Here are some important physics formulas related to Newtonian Gravity:
Newton's Law of universal Gravitation:

    Fg = Gm1m2
r2

where
  • m1, m2 are the masses of two bodies
  • G is the universal gravitational constant which has a value of 6.67300 × 10-11 m3 kg-1 s-2
  • r is distance between the two bodies

Formula for escape velocity (vesc) = (2GM / R)1/2where,

  • M is mass of central gravitating body
  • R is radius of the central body

The transitional kinetic energy is given by ½ m (mass) x v2(velocity squared

Physics Formulas for momentum, impulse and force concerning a particle moving in 3 dimensions are as follows (Here force, momentum and velocity are vectors ):

  • Momentum is the product of mass and velocity of a body. Momentum is calculate using the formula: P = m (mass) x v (velocity)
  • Force can defined as something which causes a change in momentum of a body. Force is given by the celebrated newton's law of motion: F = m (mass) x a (acceleration)
  • Impulse is a large force applied in a very short time period. The strike of a hammer is an impulse. Impulse is given by I = m(v-u)

I hope that helped

Your formulas are relevant in the area of ballistics. Since the velocity of a cast weighted nymph is negligible I believe we need to review the actions or force of water on a sphere, n weighted to compensate for the addition of the hook and other extraneous materials on the hook. Also, the perigee of the sun as well as the lunar phase of the moon must also be factored in to get an accurate result.

Perhaps, the answer is, there is no answer. This video may exemplify this. "The reality as we know it, in other words, simply does not exist"

Laughing Out Loud Nice find Koda this explains it in much detail then I did . i am glad I have you to keep me straight

Maybe we should have kept the Engineering stuff in PM's so we don't mess innocent minds up.Crazy Perhaps I can get this back in perspective.

What we both said can be broken down to:

The dingle times the dangle equals the median divided by the extremes.

Further delineated to:

A boulder will reach the stream bottom faster than an unweighted grasshopper.

Now with that said, to Hell with the beads man!  I want to send a mouse for a swim and see one of those New Zealand trout inhale it!

i have heard that very large Brook Trout will take a mouse to. I watched a TV show some time back where they were Quebec fishing a mouse imitations and these big and I mean big Brookies would slam the fly.  Now that would be a blast. While we are on the subject where are the young lads ?  I was hoping to see them youngins jumping all over the physics in this post

It is with much regret that I say I believe we are the only two rocket scientist on the forum. There is little future in Quantum Physics and very little application in the fly fishing world as we know it.  We were lucky enough to find a window to apply the formulas, felt good to get it out of the system Smile
