So are they saying the fish are slow to return this year or has the fish population been reduced ? Could it be caused by a late spring ?

Our numbers are aweful on this river steadily declining and the don't know what is causing it. The river was even closed to salmon angling in the mid '90s for about 5 years. IMHO it should still be closed!! Could be acid rain , seals off shore , I'm not sure but any river south of ours that used to have healthy salmon populations are now just about dead water...Its a shame and makes me sad to think too much about it Question

Thats to bad, I have always thought this was one of the best atlantic salmon fishing rivers in Canada. Could it be over harvest out at sea ?

Dave

20 year ago it was a pretty decent salmon river!! Not sure about the over harvest at sea since there isn't supposed to be any of that for the last 7-8 years. One would think the #'s would come back? Could be a ph level thing or the illegal introduction of fish like bass and chain picerell that have started to take over sections of the river. There seams to be a decent " of parr every year in the tributary that runs up past my house.

Hi Lahave
You are not alone..I am also a victim of the decline in salmon
populations here on the Tobique River as with all Bay of Fundy
rivers. Not enough adult spawners returning to maintain the
system. The season has been closed here for several years and
to make it worse there is a salmon pool in front of my house.
But, in a hour I can drive to the Dungarvan river. A few minutes
more and I can fish the Renous river. One hour and a half I can
be on the Little Southwest Miramichi.
Definately not like it used to be....Make a coffee, Walk to the pool,
catch a fish and be back in the house before the coffee gets cold.
Things just ain't what they used to be. Cry

Happy Fishing and Tying
Stephen

Yah you got that right Stephen. When I lived in Grandbay-Westfield (just outside of Saint John) the Hammond use to be a decent river also!!

I think its becoming that way all over. It has allot to do with the drought and climate change. Its sad to see but I think it will go in cycles ,Hopefuly anyway
