I have know idea Dave just personal observations over the course of 40 years of fly fishing for trout...same as Jungle Cock cheeks ...one with JC out fishes a mickey finn without them ...:wtf: wish I had an answer for yah but thats all I gotGeek

 Ah I think maybe the fish key on something . I know I might be crazy but when I fish my CDC emerger and the tail gets torn off I notice the fly isn't as effective.  The fly only has 3 small wood duck tail fibers but if they get torn off the fly doesn't catch near the fish if it has them .  The red wool to me is a key point that fish like as the Jungle Cock cheeks .



Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was
cut by the world's great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time.
On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words,
and some of the words are theirs.
